Mount Oswald project achieves interim practical completion
Equitix is delighted to announce that the Mount Oswald project at Durham University has now achieved interim practical completion.
The project, developed by Equitix Limited and acquired by Equitix Fund V, has involved the construction of two new college facilities totalling nearly 1,000 additional rooms, and it forms part of the University’s strategy to deliver world-class research and education and a broader student experience. Over 700 rooms in the new John Snow College and South College facilities have en-suite bedrooms. The remaining rooms have shared bathroom facilities arranged in townhouses and studios.
Students and college staff are due to move into the colleges this September and the university has nominated all of the rooms for the new academic year.
Ben Leech, Development Director for Equitix, said: “We are delighted to have been able to deliver these two new college facilities for Durham University which is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. The new accommodation will provide students with top-quality housing that will enhance their university experience.
“This contract milestone has been achieved on time and on budget and in spite of the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic and Interserve going into administration. This success is testament to the strength and professionalism of our partners EMS who have managed and supported the process since work began on site in 2018.”
Practical Completion is due to take place at the end of August at which point the university and our Facilities Management supply chain will assume control of the buildings, before students arrive for the start of the academic year.
